Ubuntu’s new opt-in, open-source telemetry is a win-win for Linux users - here’s why
Jack Wallen discusses how OSes as well as other apps/services collect data, and in this article he covers the changes in how Ubuntu/Canonical is doing this. We’re told Ubuntu Report is being replaced by Ubuntu Insights, with no personal data collected; giving us a sample of the data for a Ubuntu 25.10 Desktop install. Jack gives us the reason for Canonical collecting the data via quote, and adds that the collected data is a “win/win situation” outlining why. We’re told Ubuntu Insights is open source code too.
